If yes, apply today!The Return Utah program is a formal career reentry program, designated for Utahns desiring to re-enter the workforce after a career break. Along with a state job and traditional on-the-job training, Return Utah roles provide 16-weeks of transitional support (similar to an internship) which includes an office technology review, coaching, career development, mentorship, networking opportunities and job market readiness training.Career break reasoning is irrelevant to hire. Program participants have taken career breaks for varied reasons including childcare, chronic illness, caring for a family member, educational pursuits, retirement, military service, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, political office, travel, etc.To be eligible for this return-to-work opportunity candidates:
- Must have a career break of one year or more at the time of application (unless the candidate is affiliated with the military in any way including as a military spouse/partner), or
- Demonstrate underemployment at the time of application and
- Have prior professional/life experience in a functional area of interest.
This is a part time (20 hours), temporary position providing employment and transitional support for 16 weeks of employment. Please note, that while we will provide access to resources that will enable you to explore further employment opportunities, your participation does not guarantee employment with the State of Utah upon conclusion of the program.**This position is primarily in-office but may be eligible for periodic telework.PRINCIPAL DUTIES
In this position, you will support critical administrative programs for the Utah Department of Commerce. You will also assist with tracking legislation affecting the department, and complete other projects as assigned. Duties may include, but not be limited to the following:
- Plan professional development courses and course work
- Research training opportunities and communicate with potential on-site hosts
- Use software to assist with online accessible training
- Create a system for tracking professional development hours for employees
- Follow and track legislation affecting the department
- Conduct research on proposed legislation
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Our model candidate will:
- Be effective at organizing information in an intuitive, readable way.
- Have excellent report writing skills.
- Possess above-average computer skills, especially with Excel, Word, Google Sheets, and Google Docs.
- Have an excellent work ethic.
- Be able to work independently and collaboratively when needed.
- Have the ability to communicate professionally with Agency Management.
PREFERENCES
Preferences may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience organizing content as part of a workplace professional development program
- Experience, knowledge, and/or understanding of state government/political process (law-making, the legislative process, etc.).
- Experience showing excellent writing skills including communications and research roles
- Related education (political science, public administration, education, economics, business administration, international relations, public policy, English, communications).
