Four years of law enforcement experience.EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.Possession of a current Louisiana driver’s license.Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.Job ConceptsFUNCTION OF WORK:
To direct police enforcement activities of a police division actively involved in investigations of crimes and accidents, to provide emergency services and crime prevention programs, and/or to serve as a shift supervisor in a large university police department.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Broad review from a higher-level police official. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct line over Police Sergeants and lower-level police officers.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Statewide.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from a Police Sergeant by the presence of supervisory responsibilities for a division or by shift supervisor responsibility for a large university police department.Differs from Police Captain by the absence of managerial responsibilities.Examples of WorkDirects activities of a police division or shift in a large police department with a specific organizational goal.Directs and supervises the activities of lower-level officers.Conducts research in order to recommend possible solutions to officers.Inspects and evaluates performance of lower-level officers.Interviews applicants for employment.Guides subordinates in complex police operations.Louisiana State Government represents a wide variety of career options and offers an outstanding opportunity to make a difference through public service.
