- Obtain information from patient and/or family to identify major complaints, symptoms, or reason for seeking health care.
- Take and record blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height and weight.
- Obtain pulse oximeter readings and notifies registered nurse for abnormal readings per protocol.
- Perform a behavioral health screening. Documents patients’ chief complaints and other pertinent information in the health record.
- Participate in promoting patient compliance with health activities in accordance with Patient Centered Medical Home and other DHA initiatives/OPORDS.
- Apply and remove bandages, binders, simple dressings and hot and cold packs.
- Assist patients in walking, moving, and changing positions and prevents obstruction, dislodgment and unnecessary movement of drainage, suction, and parenteral fluid apparatus.
- Clean wounds and applies bandages after suturing and assists in removal of sutures, staples, and dressings.
- Assure accurate care and handling of specimens.
- Perform routine procedures, such as EKGs, eye, throat, nasal and/or wound cultures, dressing changes, ear irrigation, and application of bandages.
- Assist with the admission and discharge of patients and the maintenance of medical records to include filing, adding demographic information.
- Maintain accountability for actions and control of vaccines.
- Receive telephone calls, patients, and visitors to the medical facility, ascertains the nature of the call or visit, obtains identifying information and determines the nature and urgency of the patient’s request.

Additional information about transcripts is .Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing clerical support within a medical treatment facility (MTF) or clinic; scheduling medical appointments for patients; takes and records vital signs such as blood pressure, respirations, temperature, height, weight, and other required measurements; performing phlebotomy techniques to collect and/or distribute blood samples; screens for immunizations and input lab requests in automated database. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).OREducation: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Health Technician, Health Science, or Health Services.
ORCombination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
