Job Description
Summary: Provides leadership and support to teachers and administrators in developing curriculum, instructional programs and other components essential for effective schools.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Assists in the mentoring, observation and evaluation of principals.Assists in planning goals and objectives, curriculum units and individual lessons, classroom organization and management, and objectives for classroom practices.Shows leadership in development of teaching materials, orientation and mentorship for new teachers, demonstration lessons, instructional remediation, support material/literature, and location and incorporation into the classroom of research findings.Provides professional development based on mandates and teacher needs, utilizing local, state, and/or national resources.Observes feedback on classroom practices and acts as an liaison with teachers in other schools and with central office administration and personnel.Communicates through developing newsletters, bulletins, manuals, and handbooks.Encourages the teaching of excellence and personal and program improvement.Assists with professional development for faculties, development of School Improvement Plans, grant writing, securing and interpreting research findings, location and/or recommendation of applicants for teaching positions through the Office of Human Resources, and grade level/departmental/team meetings.Performs expertise in interviewing, evaluating, and recommending teacher applicants through the Office of Human Resources.Coordinates the use of curriculum resources and networks and coordinates programs with other supervisors and departments.Develops an articulate K-12 curriculum.Secures resources through grant writing and other funding sources.Plans and implements policies in regards to textbooks and other instructional materials, pupil progression policies, and other instructional matters.Develops plans and procedures for implementing local, state, and federal mandates.Develops policies and procedures to assure budgetary and fiscal accountabilityActs as a liaison with the State Department of Education to monitor activities affecting instruction.Coordinates and assists with special projects.Displays professional growth through active involvement and leadership in local, state, and national professional organizations.Assists parent group and coordinates programs with business, industry, universities, civic organizations, and the community.Other Duties:Other duties as assigned that are related to the functions of the position.Essential Functions/Qualifications/Requirements:Education and Experience:Five years of successful experience as a teacher is required as well as experience as an administrator or supervisor. Minimum of a Master’s degree and possess, or be eligible for, professional administrative or supervisory certification in the State of Louisiana and parish or city Supervisor of Instruction or meet the legal requirements for principals in Louisiana as well as the required endorsements as noted by the Louisiana Department of Education to lead a school and supervise administrators.Work Environment Conditions:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
