Responsibilities:Seeking a motivated Airframe and Powerplant Technician to join our Aviation Maintenance Team based at Nellis Airforce Base, Las Vegas Nevada. Daily responsibilities will be to perform scheduled/unscheduled maintenance and servicing activities on US Department of Energy Aircraft (Beechcraft B-350 airplane, and Leonardo AW139) operated by Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS), LLC.Key Responsibilities

  • The NNSA Air unit is first and foremost an emergency response team. The emergency we are prepared for is rare. However, mechanics must be prepared to respond if activated. As such, MSTS has very reasonable but strict standby requirements for the response teams.
  • Standby requirements and considerations include:
  • Mechanics are required to be on standby as needed, usually 2-3 weeks at a time. Occasionally longer than 3 weeks depending on staffing.
  • Mechanics are paid $40 per day extra to be on standby.
  • Mechanics must be within 2 hours of your assigned base while on standby.
  • Mechanics on standby must have reliable cell phone reception.
  • Mechanics must remain fit to maintain the aircraft while on standby.
  • If called out, mechanics must be able to deploy for potentially several weeks straight.
  • Standby positions require an additional physical and various inoculations to maintain a deployable status.
  • Deployments for several weeks at a time are possible for both emergency response and non-emergency response missions.
  • Accomplish scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and servicing activities on US Department of Energy Aircraft (Beechcraft B-350 airplane, and Leonardo AW139,) operated by Mission Support and Test Services, LLC.
  • Assist technicians and maintenance personnel in the development, integration, installation and removal of standard mission equipment in aircraft.
  • Work with stockroom personnel to facilitate the timely requisitioning of all parts, materials and equipment needed to complete aircraft maintenance.
  • Maintain aircraft in accordance with latest revision of the manufacturer’s instructions, applicable FAA Federal Aviation Regulations and Aviation Operations Manual. Operate and maintain ground support equipment.
  • May conduct inspections on work in progress during aircraft maintenance activities, coordinates modifications and major repairs with the FAA, and provides input to aircraft maintenance procedures.
  • Responsible for compliance with airworthiness programs established by the airframe manufacturers.
  • Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, adaptation, and modification of standard techniques, guidelines, procedures, and criteria.
  • Devise new approaches to maintenance.
  • Plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the application of maintenance techniques.
  • Apply conventional approaches to maintenance problems encountered.
  • Plan, guide, or prepare administrative and technical documents as required for maintenance.
  • May direct overall activities on specific assignments.
  • Perform other work as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 9 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 11 years’ progressive related experience.
  • Degree in Aviation Maintenance preferred.
  • Professional experience maintaining turbine powered airplanes and helicopters is desired.
  • Possess an FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate.
  • Be proficient at troubleshooting and diagnosing turbine powered airplane and helicopter airframe, engine, and electrical systems. Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations Parts 91, 65, 43, and 21. Effective oral, written, and electronic communication skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and electronic manufacturer’s maintenance libraries.
  • Participate in the Deployment Authorization Program (DAP) and be able to travel and work nonstandard hours and deploy on domestic and overseas missions on short notice on company aircraft or vehicle. Capable of lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs. Occasional overtime, weekend work, and travel may be required.
  • Beechcraft B-350 airplane, and Leonardo AW139, Pratt and Whitney PT6 Series Engine experience and FAA Inspection Authorization are desired.
  • The primary work location will be based at the Remote Sensing Laboratory at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, NV (RSL-N).
  • Flexible work schedule can be negotiated with the manager; employees can work 5/8’s, 9/80’s or 4/10’s work-weeks.
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance.
